Did you know that there actually is a right way to wash your face? Shocked? We were too, and unfortunately, it’s not a quick once-over with a face wipe while catching up on Netflix (sorry). Your daily cleansing routine is never more essential than in the evening to ensure that all traces of makeup and / or SPF are removed. Throughout the day, airborne nasties (read: bacteria and pollution) are attracted to your skin, and if not removed properly they can contribute to pigmentation, breakouts and even skin aging. Not what we want. The best way to stop this is the new skincare must do: double cleansing.
Confused? Double cleansing involves using a cleansing oil, balm or micellar water to break down make-up, SPF and sebum (oil) on the surface of the skin first, then following it with a deeper, different water-based cleanse to actually clean your skin. This second round of cleansing will allow the product to penetrate deeper into the skin’s epidermis. Now before you go in search of new products, it really can be as simple as purchasing an affordable micellar water to go alongside your favourite cleanser. For the first round of cleansing, it’s best to wash your face until no trace of makeup-remains visible on the cotton pad or muslin cloth. This could take three, four or even five goes, but if you spent time putting the makeup on, it makes sense to spend time taking it off, right? The same goes if you’re bare faced, SPF is designed to stick to the skin and be difficult to remove. Take your time with it.
ensure you gain all the benefits from your cleanser and its ingredients. If you’re one of the average people who only spend about 20 seconds on cleansing, try to really massage in your cleanser properly before washing away with a damp cloth or cotton pad. Our personal favourite? The SKINKIND Skin Cleanser is packed with four essential oils: Lavender, Coconut, Micronised Pine and Avocado, and working together the oils help to restore the skin’s natural balance, leaving it deeply cleansed and nourished.
